RITUAL: A sequence of activities involving gestures, words, and objects, performed in a sequestered place, and performed according to set sequence.

The making of art is itself ritualistic, and the artists invited to participate in this exhibition have explored the notion of a ritualistic process to explore key ideas in human experience that seek knowledge, comfort or questions. Rituals embedded in the everyday life of the artist in their studio and as participants in their communities. All

these artists consider how rituals impact our culture, our communities, and how we identify ourselves as individuals and as members of larger groups within those communities of interest. The exhibition will present a diverse group of works by twelve artists; each of whom is exploring the act of ritual within its spiritual role, as a

rite of passage or as a process in constructing their art practice. Together they reaffirm the role of ritual as a vital component in the process of transforming, informing and critiquing contemporary experience.
